This beauty was born into a Bengali Hindu family in Bangaluru on 1st July 1992 (Yep, she is just 25). She started off her career on television in 2009 with MTV India’s reality TV show TVS Teen Diva where she was the first runner-up. She then auditioned for a video jockey at MTV Delhi and was selected immediately. That audition marked the start of Rhea’s career as a video jockey. She has hosted a number of MTV shows including Pepsi MTV Wassup, TicTac College Beat and MTV Gone in 60 seconds.
In 2012, Rhea made her acting debut in Telugu movie Tuneega Tuneega where is played the female lead, Nidhi opposite Sumanth Ashwin. Though the movie didn’t get many positive reviews, it did bring Rhea in the limelight. That’s when director Ashima Chibber’s eyes fell on Rhea and thus, she bagged the role of girl-next-door Jasleen in Mere Dad Ki Maruti.
The movie is a new type of comedy was well received by the audience and went on to be a huge Box Office hit. Made on a meagre budget of Rs 2 crore, it earned Rs 2.60 crore on its opening day. It earned a total of Rs 12 crore which easily covered its budget of making.
The story of the movie was set in Chandigarh where a wedding is about to take place at the Khullar House. The father, Tej Khullar (Ram Kapoor) has a bought a new car as a gift for his daughter and son-in-law. But his college-going son, Sameer (Saqib Saleem) takes the car without telling his father to college to impress Jasleen (Rhea Chakraborty). Later that night, after dropping Jasleen to her hostel, Sameer in a drunk state gave the keys to a man who he thought was valet.
After coming to his senses, Sameer realizes that he has lost the car. What ensues is a hilarious tale of cover-ups and search for the car. The audience was completely bowled over by Rhea’s performance and her on-screen presence. This marked her debut in Bollywood. This year she was seen in another comedy opposite Ritesh Deshmukh in bank Chor.
